Chief Mate of 3,000 GT or more Unlimited Trade Voyages (Reg. II/2)

To obtain this Certificate, one must holding Officer in charge of navigational watch 500 GT or more Unlimited Trade Voyages certificate and have serve in that capacity for a period of time or serve as Watchkeeping Officer.


1) Course to be attended

  • Chief Mate of 3,000 GT or more Unlimited Trade Voyages
  • Gen. Operator’s Certificate (GMDSS-GOC)
  • Efficiency in Survival Craft Certificate
  • Advance Fire Fighting
  • Medical Care
  • Radar Observer
  • Radar Simulator @ ARPA Simulator Cert.
  • Electronic Navigational Aids (Operational) Certificate
  • Shipboard Management Certificate


2) Sea time

  • 12 months Sea Time as WKO


3) Apply for Oral Examination to Marine Department & Passed

  • Before you are qualified for this exam, you are to submit you written examination slip to Marine Department during your application. You cannot attend this exam if you are still undergoing your course or you failed in your written examination.


4) Apply for Certificate of Competency to Marine Department

Certificate of Competency Issued:

COC Grade:

  • Chief Mate of 3,000 GT or more Unlimited Trade Voyages

Capacity & Limitation:

  • Chief Mate - Unlimited Voyages - None
  • Watch Keeping Officer - Unlimited Voyage – None


5) Apply for Endorsement of Certificate of Competency

Requirement for Endorsement of Certificate

  • Holding COC of Chief Mate of 3,000 GT or more Unlimited Trade Voyages
  • 12 month sea time as Chief Mate of 3,000 GT or more Unlimited Trade Voyages

Certificate of Competency Issued:

COC Grade:

  • Chief Mate of 3,000 GT or more Unlimited Trade Voyages

Capacity & Limitation:

  • Chief Mate - Unlimited Voyages - None
  • Watch Keeping Officer - Unlimited Voyage – None
  • Master – Near Coastal Voyage - None (endorsement)

  1. What are the required documents (original & photocopy) in order to produce COC if passed oral exam?
    Photocopy how many copy?
